Review: Amadeus Restaurant

I hope you all enjoyed reading my first restaurant review on my blog.

1st January not only marks the beginning of the New Year for me. It is special for one more reason: My Lovely Parent's Wedding Anniversary. They've completed 26 years of marriage and as family tradition, we always go for dinner. This time, we went to Amadeus Restaurant. I had been there before too. It is a decent fine dining restaurant specialising in Spanish and Mediterranean cuisine located in the posh area Nariman Point, inside the NCPA campus. I'm sure most of you'll must be knowing that there is an "Amadeus Club" too. So, Amadeus has got a noisy lounge, fine dine and a neighbouring cafe, that is, Cafe at the NCPA. It is owned by one of the well-known chef,  Farokh Khambata, (also the owner of the newly opened "Umame Restaurant" at Churchgate and previously existing "Joss", and having a leading Catering Company called "Catering & Allied".)

Amadeus will appeal to the art and culture lovers as they shall be captivated by the walls of the spacious restaurant decorated with pictures of cultural icons. Naturally, when it is at NCPA, you can expect the decor to be exactly like the place. The interiors and ambience are as great as the location: rich, classy, comfortable and pleasant. Personally, I found the ambience very romantic with the dim lightning.

Comfortably seated and going through the menu, all ready to hog, I ordered the Amadeus Lobster Bisque Flamed With Cognac Soup. Soup is something which partly fills a person's tummy. In this case, I did not enjoy this soup much. When it was served to me, I went, "Oh! I'll finish this in just 5-7 spoons!" and that was so the case. Not only the quantity, but even the quality was average. It tasted quite a lot like coconut water. If I were to give a rating, it would be 2/5.

The next on the serve were the Tapas.  Tapa in Spanish means snacks or appetizers. We ordered the Turkish Kebab Platter. It was one lavish, aromatic platter comprising of chicken, fish and lamb with freshly baked pita. I enjoyed this dish and would recommend it too. The next on serve was Costillas de Cerdo which was smoked pork ribs. It was well cooked and soft too, easy to chew. The accompanying chimichurri glaze, which is the Argentinian sauce used in grilled meat comprising of herbs, garlic and tangy vinegar, was a balance of sour and sweet, more of sweet.

My expectations for the main course were raised a bit higher after having the delicious tapa dishes and  Braised Pork Belly was called for myself. Huge platter filled with lot of pork, mashed potatoes and smoked corn. It was a hearty delicious meal and managed to complete it all by myself. Perfectly cooked and a silky mash- an ideal dish which I would want when I crave for a pork meal. Would totally recommend this to all the pork lovers.

My parents are rice lovers and they chose for this newly introduced rice dish in the Amadeus menu called the  Zereshk cooked in an Iranian style with lamb. It was authentic, delectable, tantalizing, smooth. Must say that the lamb in any dish at Amadeus is excellent and well-cooked. We also ordered a Ham and Mozzarella cheese pizza. It was excessively salty, did not prefer to have another slice though the mozzarella cheese tasted delicious and fresh.

I was already full with my Pork Platter but couldn't say no to the dessert. The Tiramisu au Kahlua and Chocolate and Hazelnut Ice cream was called for. The Ice cream was a perfect blend of both the flavours whereas the Tiramisu which was the mascarpone custard layered with whipped cream and coffee soaked ladyfinger tasted quite average, found it a little soggy too. I am a big Tiramisu fan and I always enjoy it Sadly, this one didn't meet upto my expectations.

The service was excellent. Very attentive and friendly staff. Thumbs up for that.

When we got the bill, I was shocked looking at the price. I've never had this expensive meal in my life ever. The place is outright expensive for the food which, according to me, is good, but not awesome. It is definitely going to tear your pockets, but okay to try once. Would only recommend this place to people who can afford spending Rs. 5,000+ along with taxes, for a dinner night. Overall, would end the review by saying that a meal at Amadeus would certainly be an enjoyable experience, not an excellent or an amazing one.
